Introduction

Global warming and its effects could be clearly seen in the current pandemic. Man has always used and exploited various natural resources leaving the present and the future generation with the scarcity of everything and lack of clean environment and water. This has led to climate change across the globe. Also, there has been very little repurposing of factories and recycling of products which provide with less or no solution to protect the environment.

Natural resources are getting depleted, wildlife is getting extinct, oceans and seas are getting polluted and the growing pollution is resulting in low air quality- these factors provide a negative picture to the environmentalists, pollution examiners and researchers. This has resulted in an imbalance in the food chain, scarcity of clean water and natural resources and health hazards, especially what we witness in the ongoing pandemic.

We as humans need to take the environmental situation very gravely before the harrowing problem of pollution overrules us. We need to be very cautious and careful while using the resources and try to be as minimalistic as possible in our daily usage or consumption. What is done cannot be undone but can definitely be examined, studied and improved. Taking baby steps towards a healthy lifestyle and efficient use of resources could do wonders for the world scenario. But what is most important is implementing methods from the processes that are far away from the unnatural and harmful, i.e. embracing renewable energy.

Renewable energy in simple words is the energy whose source is nature like wind or sunlight. And so the renewable energy can always be replenished, irrespective of its use and demand. Renewable energy is less expensive to generate, simple to execute and a great way of saving non-renewable energy. They also help in reducing carbon emissions thereby dropping the air pollution levels on the whole. This is a great step towards the progression of science and technology and the safety and health of the people.

There are a lot of companies all over the world today that consumes renewable energy and manufacture their products through natural sources without compromising the quality of their production or risking the environment in any way.

Here is a list of some 5 companies that are making their mark in renewable energy:

Cypress Creek Renewables

This American company focuses on sustainability and the effective use of solar energy. They have more than 3 gig watts of solar energy developed and they operate numerous solar facilities across the U.S. The company is part of an initiative led by ‘The Solar Foundation’ that was selected by the U.S department for a grant to support and advance a high-quality of the solar workforce.

The company has joined forces with a lot of community colleges and schools to invest and train the solar energy workforce. The power generated at solar facilities is fed into the electric grid, providing clean and affordable energy to communities. In this way, the company is making its mark, not only for the operation of solar facilities but also for educating people and communities about it and creating awareness among the people.

Tesla

Another company that focuses on energy storage is the electric car specialist ‘Tesla’. They have been manufacturing battery-electric cars as an opportunity to break the usual correlation between high performance and low mileage.

The company specializes in electric vehicle manufacturing, battery energy storage from home to grid-scale and through its acquisition of SolarCity, solar panel and solar roof tile manufacturing. The company’s long-term strategic goal was to create affordable mass-market electric vehicles.

The company today operates multiple large factories for making vehicles and their components. Electric cars operating on solar energy is the future of the wheels on road.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy is actively involved in sustainability by reducing the operational activities that hugely impact the environment including the greenhouse gas emissions.

The businesses associated with this company has investments in wind, solar, geothermal and biomass generating facilities with approximately $25 billion in December 2018 with plans to spend an additional $6 billion on the construction of wind-powered generating facilities, repowering certain existing wind-powered generating facilities and funding wind tax equity investments through 2021. With their hydroelectric power plants, they use the energy generated by flowing water into electric energy.

Invenergy

Invenergy and its affiliated companies have developed more than 21,700 megawatts of projects that are in operation, construction or contracted like solar, wind and energy storage projects. Invenergy has built the largest solar project in Illinois, repurposed a golf course for solar in Long Island and as a daytime power source, helps meet electricity demand during peak demand hours.

With more than 100 projects in development or operation across the U.S, Canada, Europe, Japan and Latin America, the company is leveraging the innovative design and next-generation technology to create a new paradigm for energy production. Energy is one of the biggest challenges today. The company’s wind, solar and natural gas project contributes a total of 7,897 megawatts resulting in 58.6 million tons of avoided CO2 emissions.

Duke Energy

Duke Energy has been providing wind energy solutions to businesses, developers and small utilities for over a decade. The company is a leader in the wind energy industry generating more than 2,300 megawatts of wind electricity at 21wind farms across the U.S. Their zero-carbon wind projects provide enough energy to power over half a million homes. Duke Energy has invested approximately $5 billion to provide innovative, affordable and sustainable clean energy solutions.

They have developed the Notrees Battery Storage Project to expand the use of renewable energy. They own and operate more than 614 megawatts of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar power projects at more than 52 solar farms across the country delivering customized solar energy solutions for utilities, municipalities, electric cooperatives and large business customers.

Duke Energy is a pioneer in battery energy storage solutions providing innovative development and advancement of battery energy storage systems. Solar and wind installations with energy storage and microgrids can provide a virtually endless supply of carbon-free energy which is valuable to institutions in need of resilient energy sources.

Conclusion

Renewable energy is a vision for the manufacturing units, investment sectors and small and large scale businesses. It’s like a ray of hope for the world after such huge exploitation of non-renewable energy and melting of the glaciers. Renewable energy is used in heating and cooling purposes, electricity, transportation and off-grid energy services. The global issues have also helped local businesses to flourish and rural areas in availing electricity with the help of renewable energy. The technologies from renewable energy like solar, wind or hydropower have the potential to attract the new business strategies of either new companies entering the market or the old ones reforming themselves as the focus right now is sustainability and the well being of the people, especially after the pandemic 2020.
